It’s been two years since our first talk with RURUTIA! The singer has recently released a new song and we managed to talk to her again about her career.
RURUTIA: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Youtube
TN: Almost two years have passed since our interview in 2020. First of all, how have you spent the last two years?
RURUTIA: For the past two years, COVID-19 has made every day’s life completely unacceptable. I had to live a life dedicated to prevent an infection.
Originally, I did not have a lifestyle that was very active outside, but it was very shocking noticing that there were various behavioral restrictions.
However, there were quite a few things that I was able to overcome on my own, little by little; difficult things that I had never experienced. For me, these two years were important; they gave me strength little by little, and I think it was not wasted time.
TN: Your return to music was warmly welcomed by the fans. Do you think something has changed, especially in the music of the past and the present?
What I always really felt is that my fans really cherished me. Perhaps RURUTIA is a musician who is kindly cared by the by the world’s number one fans. I would like to express my gratitude and love to everyone who has supported me for 20 years since my debut; it is such a warm support from many people also during painful moments while doing music activities at my own pace. I do not think my music has changed much, but from now on, it is not just from my point of view, but it is like a bird looking at the vast land from the sky (or vice versa). I would like to express the world view from the perspective of all life.
TN: The albums “Chorion”, “Seirios “and “NODE from R” are now available digitally. Do you have any special memories of preparing these albums?
This was harder than I expected. I am not an engineer, so I had no experience with rates or bits for distribution. When converting from a CD sound source for digital distribution and sending the data, I had to redo it many times, and it was a work that caused inconvenience.
TN: Over the last two years you released several new songs, including “We Say Good Night” and “7th Heaven”. Please tell us about these releases (including the meaning of the lyrics).
Due to the pandemic COVID-19, it was a time when anxiety engulfed the world and life was heavy and stuffy. I released new songs with the hope that at least the music would comfort everyone’s painful feelings. I used soft words for the lyrics and created them with the intention that listening to my songs would give everyone a peace of mind.
TN: Please tell us about everything about the new song “Loop in the sky” too.
“There is a small park in the middle of my favorite walking course. Immediately after entering the alley in a residential area, the place is surrounded by tall trees, with no playset and just a bench at the end.
If I stand in the middle of the park and look up, I will see a round sky surrounded by trees. I love the little sky that is cut out in a circle.
No telephone poles, electric wires, buildings, or houses can be seen, only the sky can be seen.
There are many buildings in Japan. So, there are not a lot of small parks in the city where you can see only the sky.
When I look up at the sky for a while, I suddenly lose my balance for a moment, and it makes me feel like I am jumping into the sky, in my head, diving deeply, and so on. I can breathe very deeply, and it feels like I am floating in the air.
Oh, it is okay. I can infinitely continue to pour overflowing love into this sky. This sky is so deep and endless that I can pour in as much love as I can, and I will continue to do so.
At that moment, the loneliness that had existed until then disappears.
It is all right now. Love is not gone, I am fine.”
The song that was born in this way is “Loop in the sky”.
TN: How did you come to collaborate with Tsugutoshi Goto on “Loop in the sky”?
About 20 years ago, before my major debut, I always carried a demo tape with me and, for some reasons, I had the opportunity to have Mr. Goto listen to my demo tape.
After listening to two or three songs, Mr. Goto looked up and smiled, saying, “You should continue to play music. It’s still rough but talented. Be sure to continue playing music without giving up.”
Even now, at that time, and before that, Mr. Tsugutoshi Goto is a wonderful musician, arranger, and a very famous composer. Of course I had a lot of respect for him, so those words were a great gift for me.
And “continuing music and collaborating with Mr. Tsugutoshi Goto someday” became one of my dreams as a musician.
Even after my debut, there were many things that were difficult to do. But Mr. Goto’s words at that time continued to give me courage.
TN: Would you please leave a message to your fans?
Thank you always to all my fans.
This time, miraculously, my dream of 20 years has come true, and I was able to have Mr. Tsugutoshi Goto play the bass in “Loop in the sky”.
The bass played by Mr. Goto spreads beautifully like a rippling moonlight, and I am happy to be able to deliver to everyone a new song, “Loop in the sky,” which is full of scale and brilliance.
TN: A special comment by Tsugutoshi Goto
About 20 years, after I first met RURUTIA, her music was like a woven fabric with melody and lyrics spun in a thin thread .
I listened to a few demo songs, but all of them were so delicate that I was scared of touching them.
Meanwhile, when I listened to “Loop in the sky”, I thought it would be effective to add a fretless bass to the piano melody of the introduction, so I sent her the bass DATA that I played on the demo sound source.
Did I become part of the sound-making power?
I hope that RURUTIA’s music will continue to evolve and continue.
